Toronto, Ontario (2006)
Part I:  Niles, Michigan to Windsor, ON
  
  
This was to be my first train trip since March of 2005, and I was really looking forward to getting back on the rails again. I wanted to meet a friend I had been communicating with online for a long time, and I also was wanted to see Toronto for fun rather than work (the last time I was there was for business purposes).
  
Living in Michigan now, and since I was already near the line I'd be travelling on, I decided not to travel all the way to Chicago to initiate the trip. So I began from the Niles station. My train to Detroit, Wolverine 350, was running about 10 minutes late. By the time I got to Detroit, we were running an hour late. I didn't mind, as I still had extra time in Windsor waiting for my train there.  Most of that time was spent at the nearby Tim Hortons.

One word of warning for those travelling from the Detroit Amtrak station to Windsor:  If you ask the cab drivers to take you to the tunnel, they insist on charging you a flat fee of at least $36 to go through the tunnel, even though it's just a few miles.  Instead, take a cab to a tunnel bus stop, where you can cross for just a few dollars.  Read more about the tunnel bus at The Detroit Windsor Tunnel Bus Corp.
